Amillarus secundus ( Tippmann, 1951) View in CoL ( Figs. 10–13 View Figs )

Didymonycha secunda Tippmann 1951: 301 . Amillarus secunda View in CoL ; Breuning 1962: 34. Didymonycha secunda ab. infuscata Tippmann

1951: 301 (nomen nudum).

Comparing photographs of the holotype of A. secundus and the “ holotype ” of A. secundus ab. infuscata with the holotype of A. apicalis , we found only a single difference: the outer elytral angle in the holotype of A. secundus ( Fig. 10 View Figs ) is notably spiny, while A. apicalis ( Fig. 7 View Figs ) has a short spine. However, without doubt, it is not as in the drawing by Tippmann (1951) ( Fig. 12 View Figs ). Notwithstanding, the elytra in the “ holotype ” of A. secundus ab. infuscata ( Fig. 11 View Figs ) is much more similar to that of A. apicalis than that of the holotype of A. secundus , and notably different from the drawing ( Fig. 13 View Figs ) by Tippmann (1951). Furthermore, the elytra in the aberration described by Tippmann (1951) are different; the left elytron is shorter than the right elytron. In other words, the elytral apex in A. secundus ab. infuscata is intermediate between A. secundus and A. apicalis . This suggests that A. secundus is just a specimen of A. apicalis with aberrant elytral apices. The remaining features (elytral sculpture, metasternal sculpture, legs (including metatarsomere V), shape of and pubescence on pronotum, pubescence on elytra) are much as in A. apicalis . For the time being, we prefer to keep this species as different from A. apicalis .
