Type Locality: Madagascar, Toamasina Prov., near Hiaraka, about 18 km ESE Maroantsetra, 850 m; about 15º30′S, 49º56′E (as amended by Carleton and Goodman, 1998:181). GoogleMaps

Vernacular Names: Ellerman's Tufted-tailed Rat.

Distribution: Known only from two widely separated localities in NE Madagascar.

Discussion: Status uncertain; provisionally retained as distinct from the morphologically similar E. tanala (see Carleton and Goodman, 1998).
