Synthetic description

Pogonorhinella View in CoL is a monospecific endemic genus of Madagascar which possesses a peculiar shape due to its small head and the narrow anterior margin of the pronotum. A synthesis based on Schmidt, 1910 description and material examined is presented below:

HEAD. Small with short vertex. Postclypeus narrow with strong carina and striated on sides, producing obtuse angle in lateral view. Rostrum reaching posterior margin of metacoxae. Antennae long, first segment very large, prominent pedicel.

THORAX. Anterior half of pronotum trapezoidal giving impression of neck. Hindlegs with one spine on metatibiae.

TEGMINA. Tegmina longer than wide.

MALE GENITALIA. Male genitalia without sterno-lateral plates. Aedeagus longer than pygofer height.
