Type species: Bystracoccus mataybae Hodgson, Isaias & Oliveira spec. nov.
Generic diagnosis. As currently monotypic, diagnosis as for species description below.
Generic name derivation. The generic name Bystracoccus is composed of bystra, f. Greek, meaning ‘plug or bung’ referring to dorsal plate, plus coccus, Gr. for grain or berry, after which the superfamily is named.
