• Small terrestrial to arboreal generalist foragers, typically olivaceous brown but some with bright pelage on upperparts and tails, nearly all with pale markings on shoulders; many adaptable to anthropogenic disturbance.

• 20-45 cm. View Figure

• Indo-Malayan Region, marginally into Palearctic Region. •

• Mostly tropical rainforests but also scrub jungle; montane, evergreen, and deciduous forests; plantations.

• 3 genera, 22 species, 47 taxa.

• 2 species Endangered; none Extinct since 1600.
