Distribution. A synanthropic species widespread throughout the East Mediterranean region. Although there were only two previous records of this species in Cyprus ( Turk, 1952), it is herewith confirmed by numerous new samples.
Taxonomic remarks. It has recently been revived from synonymy with P. vari us (Fabricius, 1781) with which it shares virtually the same gonopod structure, but is molecularly well differentiated and can also be distinguished by its specific colouration ( Frederiksen et al., 2012).
