TYPE SPECIES: Mus aguti Linnaeus, 1766 (= Mus leporinus Linnaeus, 1758).
SYNONYMS: Cloromis .
COMMENTS: This group is in need of revision, and many of the species are questionable. Most are based on geographic distribution at this time. The West Indian agoutis are descendents of forms introduced to the islands. The pattern appears to be D. leporina aguti (from Brazil) to the Virgin Islands; D. I. albida on St. Vincent and Granada; D. I. fulvus on Martanique and St. Lucia; and D. I. noblei on Guadeluope, St. Kitts, Dominica, and Montserrat).
