TYPE LOCALITY: Peru, Dept, de Loreto, Chamicuros (Rfo Huallago)

DISTRIBUTION: Southern Colombia (?), E Peru, NW Brazil.

COMMENTS: Subgenus Proechimys . Listed as subspecies of longicaudatus by Cabrera (1961:524); listed as species by Corbet and Hill (1991:205) and Nowak (1991:943). Range in S Colombia listed in Nowak (1991), but in Eisenberg (1989:402) this is referred to as the "brevicauda" group.
