Type Locality: Madagascar, Mahab (= Mahabo?) and Ménabé, E of Morondava.
Vernacular Names: Grandidier's Free-tailed Bat.
Synonyms: Chaerephon cristatus J. A. Allen 1917 ; Chaerephon frater J. A. Allen 1917 ; Chaerephon nigri Hatt 1928 ; Chaerephon websteri Dollman 1908 .
Distribution: Ethiopia to Ghana, Nigeria, Dem. Rep. Congo, Mali, Madagascar.
Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Data Deficient.
Discussion: plicatus species group. Often included in pumilus , but apparently distinct; see Peterson et al. (1995).
