12. Myrmecia crudelis   HNS . B.M.

Worker. Length 7 lines.-Black: the clypeus and mandibles yellow, with the teeth and apex of the latter ferruginous; the antennae and tarsi pale ferruginous; the femora and tibiae dark rufo-piceous; the head longitudinally rugose. Thorax with obscure ferruginous tints, the prothorax with a curved transverse striation, the meso- and metathorax transversely and coarsely striated. The first node of the petiole slightly roughened, the second and the abdomen smooth and shining.

Female.-This sex only differs in the usual sexual characters, the thorax being elongate-ovate, and not strangulated in the middle.
