3.1.4. Coxiella View in CoL
Coxiella View in CoL is a genus of obligatory intracellular Gram-negative bacteria, with only one species described (i.e., Coxiella burnetii ), the causative agent of zoonotic Q fever ( Johnson-Delaney, 1996; ˇSiroký et al., 2010). Reptiles and their ticks can act as reservoirs, as for example H. aegyptium View in CoL tick which parasitizes Mediterranean chelonians (ˇSiroký et al., 2010; Paș;tiu et al., 2012). Other reptilian ticks have been recorded as vectors of C. burnetii , such as Amblyomma exornatum View in CoL from Guinea Bissau ( Arthur, 1962) and Amblyomma variegatum View in CoL in Africa ( Giroud, 1951). Importantly, an outbreak of Q fever was described in New York, USA in people that had contact with imported Python regius View in CoL snakes parasitized with Amblyomma nuttalli View in CoL from Ghana ( Kim et al., 1978). Nonetheless, Coxiella View in CoL has been found to be a common symbiont of ticks (Machado-- Ferreira et al., 2016; ˇSpitalska´et al., 2018).
