Figure 1 View FIGURE 1
Description. Male. Body medium, comparatively stout. Head large, frons slightly inclined, smooth, frontal verticis protruding dorsally, apex narrower, rounded, connected by fastigium verticis. Fastigium verticis protruding foreupwards, narrower than width of first segment of antenna, with a thin median longitudinal furrow. Eyes globular, protruding outwards.
Pronotum comparatively short, disc flat, anterior margin straight, or slightly concave, posterior margin rounded, posterior transversal sulcus distinct; lateral lobes deeper than long, triangular; humeral sinus indistinct; with a tumid semi-transparent area along posterior margin. Prosternum with a pair of spines. Thoracic foramen large.
Procoxa with a spine, profemora without spines on ventral surface, apices of genicular lobes of postfemora triangular; protibia with 6 species on inner and outer margins of ventral surface separately; tibial tympana with slit-like openings. Mesofemora without spines on inner margin of ventral surface, outer margin of ventral surface with 1–4 spines, femoral genicular lobes spine-shaped; mesotibia with 6 spines on inner and outer margins of ventral surface separately. Postfemora bearing 1–7 spines on inner margin, and 8–13 spines on outer margin of ventral surface, genicular lobes with two spines; posttibiae with 26–29 spines on inner and outer margins of dorsal surface separately, a apical spur on outer margin of dorsal surface, and two pairs of ventral apical spurs.
Tegmina comparatively long, surpassing apices of postfemora, basal half slightly broad, apical half slightly narrower, apices rounded. Cu2 vein of left tegmen robust, straight. Hind wings longer than tegmina.
Tenth abdominal tergite slightly elongated, centre of posterior margin fissate, the lateral lobes triangular, and curved downwards. Cerci stout, cylindrical, apical area slightly compressed, apices lightly truncate; bearing two inner processes, the dorsal process slightly shorter than ventral one, basal area slightly narrower, middle area broad, apex acute; ventral process longer, thinner, spine-shaped, apical area curved forward, apices acute. Subgenital plate broad, large, basal area slightly narrower, lateral carinae distinct on apical half, centre of posterior margin with a triangular notch. Styli cylindrical, robust, apices rounded.
Coloration. Body green, dorsal margin of head with a longitudinal light brown stripe. Antennae yellowish brown. Disc of pronotum with a longitudinal broad light brown stripe, the outer edges of the stripe darker in some specimens. Anterior margin of tegmina light green, other area light brown; veins of tegmina green. The exposed area of hind wings light brown. Spines of tibiae and femora black brown, apical half of spurs black brown. Apical half of the spines of genicular lobes brown. Posttibiae light yellowish brown.
Female. Appearance and coloration resemble male. Tenth abdominal tergite small, centre of posterior margin fissate. Cerci conical, apices acute. Ovipositor long, moderately curved upwards, dorsal and ventral margins smooth, dorsal valvulae longer than ventral ones, apices rounded. Subgenital plate quadrate, slightly broader than long, middle area of posterior margin slightly protruding afterwards, apex lightly concave.
Type material. Holotype: male, Hainan: Baisha (Yinggezui), 22 May 2014, collected by Jiao Jiao. Paratypes: 3 males and 2 females, Hainan: Baisha (Yinggezui), 22 May 2014, collected by Jiao Jiao and Guang-Lin Xie.
Measurements (mm). Body (from apex of fastigium verticis to posterior margin of tenth abdominal tergite): male 17.0–19.5, female 21.0–22.0; pronotum: male 3.8–4.0, female 4.7–4.8; tegmina: male 19.5–23.5, female 26.5–27.0; postfemora: male 13.0–16.0, female 18.5–19.0; ovipositor: 26.0–29.0.
Discussion. The new species resembles Conocephalus (Xiphidion) liangi Liu & Zhang, 2007 , but it differs from the latter in the morphology of the male cerci.
Etymology. The name of the new species is derived from the type locality, Hainan.
Distribution. China (Hainan).
