Diagnosis. V. danasensis can be distinguished from other species in the genus by the characters listed in the key above.
Body. Male, 3.8mm.
Color. As in genus description; a relatively darkly colored species.
Male. Pygofer ventral half twice as long as dorsal margin, broadly rounded apically; with one or two macrosetae dorsoapically; with numerous short, stout setae posteriorly; ventral margin nearly straight. Valve large; produced anteriorly; median length 0.6x width. Subgenital plate triangular; with one sublateral row of 4–5 moderately long macrosetae; with numerous shorter stout or fine setae laterally. Connective stem shorter than anterior arms. Style preapical lobe quadrate; apophysis digitate, directed posterolaterally, with mildly tuberculate texture medially, with short apical tooth ventrally. Aedeagus base somewhat broad; shaft thick; apex lobate in lateral view; with pair of subapical serrated teeth on posterior margin; in caudal view, shaft relatively wide, flared subapically, tapering toward apex.

Material examined. HOLOTYPE: 1♂, First label: Museum Paris / Équateur / Danas (3792 m. d’alt.) / P. Rivet 1904. Second label: Museum Paris / MNHN (EH) / 16269 [ MNHN].
Etymology. This species is named after the Ecuadorian mountain summit, Danas, where it was collected.
Distribution. V. danasensis is known only from the holotype. The summit of Danas corresponds to 2.1333°S, 78.8833°W according to the website mapcarta.com (https://mapcarta.com/19662710, accessed Dec. 28, 2020).
Remarks. The discovery of this species extends the known distribution of the genus which was previously known only from Chile.
