Lectotype (designated here):—[illustration] tab. XV − XVII, fig. 3 in Morren (1875d).
Epitype (designated here):—Institut für Systematische Botanik München (MSB): Kultiviert im Botanischen Garten München, August 1998 (ster.), M. Sill 34 (M!).
Note:—The lectotype designated for the name Calathea oppenheimiana consists of a single leaf illustration—however it clearly features the glabrous leaf sheath and petiole, which distinguishes this species from C. kummeriana , which leaf sheath and petiole are hirsute. The epithet acknowledges Baron Edouard Oppenheim, president of the organization committee of the international horticulture exposition, held in Cologne, Germany.
