Neotype (designated here):— BRAZIL. Espírito Santo: Linhares, Reserva Florestal de Linhares, Estrada Caingá , km 1, 17 November 1993 (fl.), D.A. Folli 2083 (CVRD!, isoneotype GB!).

Epitype (designated here):—[illustration] tab. XV − XVII, fig. 7 in Morren (1875d).

Note:— Calathea wiotiana was published by Morren in 1874 with a short description of its leaf blade but no indication of a type. In 1875, Morren published a more detailed description of the leaves, in addition to a plate, which is here designated as epitype because it depicts the color and pattern of leaf ornamentation in this species. The epithet is homage to Mr. François Wiot, director of Jacob-Makoy nursery in Liège, Belgium. The combination under Goeppertia made by Borchsenius et al. (2012: 635) is not valid, because the reference to the basionym is incorrect (Art. 41.1 of ICN, McNeill et al. 2012), therefore a new combination is presented in order to validate the name.
