A. (Ammoplanus) serratus Tsuneki View in CoL

Ammoplanu s (Ammoplanus) serratus Tsuneki, 1972: 223 ±224. Mongolia: Central Aimak. Holotype female, by original designation; in TMB (examined).

Diagnostic characters

Female. Head with weak but distinct, arcuate cross-swelling at level with upper ends of eyes; surface dull, above swelling densely punctured and engraved reticulate, punctures sparse in a belt on and immediately below swelling, hence there surface more shiny (this sculpture may not be speci®c as such form occurs in several species, but is quite diOEerent from two related species, kaplanae and nasutus in which it is minutely strigose). Lower ends of eyes only moderately curved towards toruli. Small round tentorial pits at level with centres of toruli, almost equidistant from torulus and eye. Sides of clypeus smooth, lower margin outside of mesal tooth deeply impressed. Underside of head moderately dull, sparsely haired, with very broad but not very deep concavity delimited by a transverse, slightly arcuate ridge about twothirds distance between oral fossa and foramen magnum; oral fossa broader than deep. Pronotal collar very short, rounded, transversely engraved reticulate as is longitudinal sculpture on mesoscutum, not depressed in middle. Mesopleuron with very ®ne longitudinal engraved reticulation-striation.

Male. Not known.

Comment. Although known from one female only this is a distinctive species, recognizable in particular by the broad common hollow on the underside of the head. Judging by the other species possessing similar features we can suppose that the unknown male of serratus may have similar, though possibly weaker, depressions.
