M.phoebe tungusa Herz,1899 View in CoL

[TL: Russian Federation,Yakutia,River Witim];wing morphology and particularly the club shaped antenna indicate that this subspecies is referable to M. phoebe . Lukhtanov here designates a male as lectotype for the name tungusa Herz, 1899. The lectotype is shown in Figures 11A & B View FIGURES 7–11 , together with the labels ( Fig. 11C View FIGURES 7–11 ). The labels on the pin are as follows: (1) on red paper handwritten in black “ Lectotype / Melitaea Phoebe Knock / var. Tungusa Herz / V. Lukhtanov design; (2) on black-edged white paper, printed in black “Кол.[лекциЯ] Вел.[икого] Кн.[ЯЗЯ]/ НиколаЯ/ Михайловича” (translates to: Collection of Grand Duke Nikolai Mikhailovich); (3) on white paper with a broad black surround printed in black on the upperside “Witim” and on the underside “O. Herz”; (4) on white paper (discolouring to brown) handwritten in black “1/12/7” (This means: 01 July [1888] (old style)/12 July [1888] (new style). No year is given on the data label but it can be deduced from Herz (1899: 240). This diagnosis agrees with those of Higgins (1941: 342), Korb & Bolshakov (2011: 41) and van Oorschot & Coutsis (2014: 60); not considered by Hesselbarth et al. (1995).
