M. phoebe enoch Higgins, 1941

[TL: Askhabad, Turkmenistan] is here elevated to species status: Melitaea enoch Higgins, 1941 . The Type Locality is just across the border from north-eastern Iran where this taxon is widely distributed ( Tshikolovets et al. 2014: 319–320). The type material, present in the Natural History Museum, London, consists of a holotype male ( Figs 16A, B, C View FIGURES 13–16 ), an allotype female and four male and one female paratypes, All the specimens display the wing characters typical of M. ornata , of which it was considered previously to be a subspecies ( Tshikolovets et al. 2014: 319 and Russell & Tennent, 2016: 47, note 33).
