Manota senticosa View in CoL sp. n.

Figs 21 View FIGURE 21 A–D

Male. Colour. Head dark brown, face paler brown. Antenna dark brown. Mouthparts paler yellowish. Thorax dark brown, preepisternum 2 ventrally paler. Legs pale yellowish, trochanters 2 and 3 brown, femur 2 and 3 slightly infuscated ventrally on basal part, femur 3 apparently infuscated on apical fourth but the character is not well observable in the mount. Wing brownish; haltere pale brown with dark brown knob. Abdomen dark brown. All setosity pale, yellowish or brownish, the thicker setae seeming darker, even black, than the finer setae and trichia. Head. Antennal flagellomere 4, Fig. 21 View FIGURE 21 A. Palpomere 3 of maxillary palpus with apicomesial thumb-like extension, with 3–4 apically expanded curved sensilla; palpomere 4 with parasegment, palpomere 5 ca. 1.3 times longer than palpomere 4. Number of strong postocular setae 9. Thorax. Anepisternum setose, with 26 setae; anterior basalare setose, with 7 setae; preepisternum 2 setose, with 8 setae; laterotergite setose, with ca.25 setae; episternum 3 setose, with 16 setae. Legs. Mid and hind tibial organs absent. Wing. R1meeting C well on the basal half of the costal margin, the sclerotized part of M2 basally extending to the level of the tip of R1, wing length 1.9 mm. Hypopygium, Figs 21 View FIGURE 21 B–D: Sternite 9 about two thirds of the ventral length of gonocoxa, laterally fused with gonocoxa, posterior margin medially notched, anterior margin with slight medial incision, the setae similar to ventral setae of gonocoxa. Parastylar lobe sclerotized, fused with gonocoxa, with 2 setae at mesial margin. Paraapodemal lobe not identifiable. Dorsal mesial margin of gonocoxa rather simple, partly membranous in the middle, posteromesially produced as a non-setose thin lobe; the posterior margin together with the lateral margin form an inconspicuous curved setose lobe. At the dorsal mesial margin of gonocoxa, on more ventral level, a platelike lobe with ca. 13 megasetae at its mesial margin, the setae vary in thickness and the thinnest ones are rather like normal setae. One juxtagonostylar seta present, which is a flattened knife-blade-like megaseta arising from a basal body, which is about a third of the length of the megaseta. Gonostylus ca. one half of the ventral length of gonocoxa, elongate oval with slightly pointed apex, seen from the ventral side the lateral half is depressed but not separated as a distinct lobe; there are three prominent strong setae, one at the apex, one subapically at the mesial margin, and one sublaterally at the apical third; otherwise the ventral surface is coved with weaker setae, the dorsal side is non-setose except for the lateral part which has a few rather strong curved setae. Aedeagus elongate subtriangular with distinct lateral shoulders, the apex curved ventrad. Hypoproct large, posteriorly extending as far as the apex of gonostylus, the ventral setae scattered, ca. 25 on each half. Cerci mesially separate, the setae distributed in the apical part, the longest ones about twice longer than the subapical width of cercus.

Female unknown.

Discussion. Manota senticosa resembles M. abakiga , M. ghanaensis and M. toroensis . For distinguishing characters see also under these species but it differs from all 1) by a higher number of megasetae (3–4, 10 and 7–8, respectively in species above contra ca. 13 in M. senticosa ) on the lobe at the dorsal mesial margin of the gonocoxa, 2) by having these megasetae more slender, in part not differing from normal setae and 3) by the unusual pattern of strong setae on the gonostylus. M. senticosa shares with M. abakiga a unilobed gonostylus, while this is bilobed in the other two species.

Etymology. The name is Latin, senticosa , thorny, referring to the numerous megasetae at the dorsal mesial margin of the gonocoxa.
