scientific name

Crepis lyrata (L.) Froel.
status

Hieracium lyratum Linnaeus View in CoL , Species Plantarum 2: 803. 1753.

"Habitat in Sibiria. D. Gmelin." RCN: 5867.

Lectotype (Babcock in Univ. Calif. Publ. Bot. 22: 280, f. 35a. 1947): Gmelin s.n., Herb. Linn. No. 954.27 ( LINN) .

Current name: Crepis lyrata (L.) Froel. ( Asteraceae ).

Note: Babcock (in Univ. Calif. Publ. Bot. 22: f. 35a. 1947) provided a habit drawing stated to be "from type (L)", and also listed a collection (p. 280) "Siberia: Without locality (L), type of H. lyratum ". A comparison of Babcock’s habit drawing and 954.27 (LINN) shows that the specimen was clearly the model for the sketch. Despite Babcock’s use of “L” (rather than “LINN”) for the location of the material, it seems clear that this material was his intended type, and this choice is accepted here.
