Distribution: Pantropical (frequent), southern eastern Palearctic and Canada.
Records in Ecuador: Galápagos (Islas: Santa Cruz, San Cristóbal , Santa Fé , Floreana , Pinzón , Rábida , Santiago , Isabela ). Napo (5 km N, El Chaco), Pichincha (4 km E Santo Domingo) , Cotopaxi ( Illinizas National Park ) , Chimborazo and Tungurahua (on the trail to Tungurahua volcano, near Baños de Agua Santa city) .
Habitat: Isla Santa Cruz: in all vegetation zones on SE slope: littoral zone, dry and transition zone, cultivated areas, Scalesia (frequent), Miconia , and fern-sedge zone. Isla San Cristóbal: littoral zone S of Wreck Bay; Miconia and fern-sedge zone around lake El Junco (frequent) and on Cerro San Joaquín. Isla Santa Fe: arid zone on NE part of the island, near cliff. Isla Floreana: moist highland and cultivated areas (frequent) between Cerro Pajas and Asilo de la Paz. Isla Pinzón: fernsedge zone at 300 m. Isla Rábida: littoral zone around flamingo lagoon, mangrove leaf litter. Isla Santiago, Playa Espumilla: littoral zone, mangrove leaf litter; dry forest on W side, and moist highland around Los Aguacates and central pampa. Isla Isabela, Volcán Wolf: highland in upper dry and humid zone, Volcán Alcedo : upper arid zone, moist highland, on crater rim and inside the crater in humid ( Psychotria ) zone, fern-sedge and elfin forest (frequent), Volcán Sierra Negra: SE slope from the littoral zone near Puerto Villamil, in fern-sedge zone and on pastures and Volcán Cerro Azul: upper arid zone around crater rim. Isla Fernandina: W slope, in dry and humid zones and in fern-sedge zone. Litoral, arid, transition and moist zone. Valley of a creek, humus and roots. Rain forest litter. Dry plants on the soil. Black soil with roots. Azorella spp. and Carex spp. detritus under paramograss. Ruderal community, under trees and shrubs, mixed with soil.
