Type Locality: Papua New Guinea, Central Province, highlands of Aroa River basin.
Vernacular Names: Eastern Hyomys.
Synonyms: Hyomys meeki Thomas 1904 ; Hyomys strobilurus Rümmler 1933 .
Distribution: Papua New Guinea; Central Cordillera from the Kratke Mtns in the north and Mt Sisa in the south ( Leary and Seri, 1997) eastward to Mt Dayman at the end of the Owen Stanley Range, south to mountains of Milne Bay Province, and mountains of Huon Peninsula.
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: This is the larger-bodied species with prominent white auricular tufts that is identified as meeki in the older literature.
