[3] Calleida lativittis Chaudoir, 1872 View in CoL

Calleida lativittis Chaudoir, 1872: 113 View in CoL (type locality: “Deccan”; lectotype deposited in MNHN); Jedlička, 1963: 435.

Type material examined: lectotype, designated herein, female, " Coll. Jeakes ", "Ex Musaeo Chaudoir"; " Calleida lativittis Chaudoir Lectotypus ♀ A. Casale des. 2010" (MNHN, fig. 30 View FIGURES 30–35 ); paralectotype, one female, "Ex Musaeo Chaudoir" ( MNHN, fig. 31 View FIGURES 30–35 ).

Non-type material examined: India: one male, “Ind. Mus. Bhogaon Purneah Dist. N. Bengal. 19.III.09 C. Paiua", “Ind. Mus. Calcutta", “H.E. Andrewes Coll. B.M. 1945-97 ", “ Calleida lativittis Chd. H.E. Andrewes det.” ( NHML); one male, “Coll. Melly” (no locality) ( CCA); two females, “ India ”; “Muséum Paris ex Coll. M. Maindron Coll. G. Babault 1930” (one of them identified as “ rubricata?”) ( MNHN); one male, two females “ India ” ( CCA). Bangladesh: one female, “Comercolly. Indes” [=Kumerkhali] ( MSNG).

Diagnosis. With the character states of Calleida of the lativittis species group, but distinguishable from other known species by the following character combination: dorsal side glabrous except some erect setae near the anterior angles of pronotum. Elytra metallic green, disc with reddish patch widened on the inner three intervals in the apical half; antennomeres 3–11 markedly darkened; femora blackish in the apical two thirds, base reddish; tibiae dark brownish in some individuals. Head narrow and convex. Pronotum elongate-cordate; disc convex, with narrow lateral furrows.

Closely related and similar to C. jelineki sp. n. described below, but easily recognized by: pronotum more transverse, more widened in the middle, with lateral sides more deeply sinuate in the basal fifth, the elytral disc with larger reddish patch, and by antennae and legs mostly darkened.

Description. The original description provided by Chaudoir (1872) is here completed with several additional characters.

General features as in figs. 30, 31 View FIGURES 30–35 . Medium sized: L: 10.0– 10.8 mm; TL: 9.0– 9.5 mm. Body elongate and slender, glabrous except a very short, hardly visible pubescence on the abdominal sternum VII and some erect setae near the anterior angles of pronotum; elytra slightly widened in the posterior fifth.

Colour: head, pronotum, lateral margins and epipleura of elytra, and underside reddish; antennae darkened from the third antennomere to apex; femora blackish in apical two thirds or more, base reddish, tibiae reddish in some specimens, darkened in others; elytra metallic blue greenish, with wide reddish patch extended from base to apex, widened on the inner three intervals in the apical half.

Lustre and microsculpture: shiny; head with vanished microsculpture; pronotum mostly without distinct microsculpture, except some fine transverse meshes on disc and middle part of the basal area; elytra with distinct microsculpture in isodiametric meshes.

Head wide, sub-convex, narrower than pronotum, smooth, with some shallow oblique frontal wrinkles; frontal foveae short but deep. Genae short, convex; eyes large and prominent.

Pronotum cordate, moderately transverse (ratio PW/PL: 1.16), widened in the middle, with deep lateral furrows. Disc with very shallow transverse wrinkles. Basal foveae deep and elongate. Lateral sides slightly reflexed, rounded in the anterior half, only sinuate in the basal sixth, then parallel sided anteriorly to the basal angles, which are rectangular. Base straight. Anterior angles effaced, each with some short setae.

Elytra elongate and narrow (EL/EW: 1.81), slightly widened at the posterior fifth. Striae deep, punctate; intervals flat or sub-convex, with evident deep punctures; interval 8 not tumid near apex. Umbilicate series of 15– 16 pores along stria 8. Apical truncation straight; outer apical angle not thickened, rounded.

Ventral side: abdominal sternum VII with sparse, hardly visible pubescence, with two (one on each side) setae in male, four (two on each side) setae in female; apical margin of abdominal sternum VII notched in the middle in male, straight in female.

Male genitalia as in figs. 32–34 View FIGURES 30–35 : median lobe of aedeagus regularly curved on the dorsal side, undulate on the ventral side; apical lamina flat, developed, angulate dorsally, fully rounded ventrally; endophallus with two chitinized V-shaped copulatory pieces close to the left lateral margin of the median lobe, their apex adjacent to the base of the apical orifice, close to each other at base, the ventral one narrower, sinuate and acute at apex, the dorsal one shorter and wider. Left paramere dorsally depressed, 1.5 times as long as wide; right paramere not emarginate.

Female genitalia: not examined.

Geographical distribution and habitat. Western and Northern India: “Deccan” (type locality); Bihar (Purnea); Uttarakhand (Haldwani); Bangladesh: Kumerkhali ( map 3 View MAP 3 ). Dubious locality: Assam (Sibsagar).

No data are available on the habitat where specimens were sampled, probably in deciduous and sub-tropical forests.

The record from Assam (Sibsagar) was only mentioned by Andrewes (1930). We didn't examine any material from Assam or other adjacent localities of northeast India. Considering the fact that Andrewes (1921) confused this species with C. excelsa , and Assam is very close to one confirmed record (Naga hills) of C. excelsa , we believe that this locality is a dubious record.
