Species recognition. This species is separated from species with similar hind femora by the rounded, light brown hind coxal lobe and the yellow coloring on the abdominal tergites.
Description. Body length: 2.19–2.69 mm. Head: Frons dark brown, except light brown on anterior margin and around bases of setae, second row of setae slightly concave. Flagellomere 1 oval, slightly pointed, brown but lighter basally. Palpus slightly enlarged, inflated, orange. Thorax: Scutum light brown to dark brown. Scutellum brown to dark brown, with 2 pairs of setae; anterior seta two-thirds length of posterior seta. Pleuron light brown to whitish-yellow. Mean costal length 0.45 wing length, range 0.4–0.48. Halter yellow. Legs yellowish-brown. Forecoxa in lateral view yellow. Foretibia with 4 dorsal setae. Foretarsomeres slender, elongate. Midcoxa darker yellow. Hind coxa whitish-yellow. Hind coxal lobe light brown, round. Posterior face of hind femur with basal group of peglike setae; ventral concavity round, filled with spinuli; basal white membranous area narrow ( Figs 135–136, 284). Abdomen: Abdominal tergite 1 yellow, tergites 2–6 yellow medially, anteriorly and posteriorly, dark brown laterally, with medial yellow area decreasing in every tergite posteriorly. Venter of abdomen whitish-gray, with few setae, larger on posterior margin of segment 5. Male terminalia with epandrium yellowish-brown, hypandrium brown, and cercus yellow.
Distribution. Amazonian Brazil and Colombia, plus a middle elevation site in Costa Rica. This distribution is unusually disjunct, both in space and in habitat type.
Derivation of specific epithet. An arbitrary combination of parts of two locality names.
