Holotype. ♂, BRAZIL: Amapá: Serra do Navio , 2.i.1959, O.P. Forattini [ LACM ENT 238582 About LACM ] ( MZSP; examined).
Species recognition. See D. cornuta , from which this species differs by the brown body color and the single row of peglike setae ( Figs 27–28). Most specimens of this species lack hind tibial setae, but one specimen had one anterodorsal seta, and was treated by Brown & Kung (2007).
Distribution. Widespread in the Neotropical Region, excluding Chile.
Other material examined. 87♂ specimens from the following localities: BRAZIL: Amapa: Serra do Navio. COLOMBIA: Amazonas: 22km NW Leticia, Amacayacu NP; Chocó : Heredia : Chilamate , La Selva Biological Station ; Puntarenas ; 24km W Piedras Blancas [= 24 km W Chacarita], 3km SW Rincon. FRENCH GUIANA: Regina: Kaw Mountains. PANAMA: Canal Zone : Barro Colorado Island .
