Platytenerus iriomotensis sp. n.
( Figs 2, 4 View FIGURES 1 – 4 , 13, 15, 17, 20, 21)
Type series. Holotype: 1♂ ( EUMJ), “Ootomi-rindô/ Iriomote-jima Is./ Okinawa, Japan / 2.VI.2014 (LT)/ Hideki Kawai leg.”. Paratype: 1♂ ( EUMJ), same locality and collector as the holotype, but the date is 1.VI.
Type locality. Ootomi-rindô, Iriomote Island, Okinawa Pref., Japan.
Diagnosis. This new species is similar to P. castaneus , but distinguishable by the following characteristics: antennae broadly pectinate; elytral disc roughly set with asetigerous punctations; elytra 1.19–1.20 times as wide as pronotum; pygidium arcuate at the middle; 8th sternite with apical margin round; phallobasic rod narrow; phallus with a linear median sclerite at apical half.
Description. Male. Head, pronotum and elytra black; abdomen brownish black; antennae and legs brownish yellow ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 4 ). Body with yellowish brown setae.
Antennae broadly pectinate; antennomere 1 claviform; 2 rectanglar; 3 triangular, twice as long as wide; 4–10 shorter than wide; 11 fusiform ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 4 ).
FIGURES 12–21. Male terminal parts of Platytenerus spp. 12, 14, 16, 18, 19, Platytenerus castaneus ; 13, 15, 17, 20, 21, P. iriomotensis sp. n.; 12, 13, pygidium; 14, 15, 8th sternite; 16, 17, spicular fork; 18–20, inflated aedeagi (18, 20, lateral views; 19, 21, ventral views.) Lettering: Ph, phallus; Tg, tegmen; CM, connecting membrane between tegmen and phallus.
Pygidium with apical margin posteriorly curved, roundly cornered at the middle; pygidial struts stout (Fig. 13). Apical margins of 7th sternite broadly emarginated in the middle. Apical margin of 8th sternite round (Fig. 15) Spicular fork with lateral plates not expanded; spicular apodeme separated at before apex; intraspicular fork elongate (Fig. 17).
Fully inflated aedeagus with broad connecting membrane between tegmen and phallus, into which basal half of phallus is inserted in ventral view; phallobase rather thick, with two short processes well pigmented in dorsal view; phallobasic rod narrow, divided apically; phallus rather broad, with a linear median sclerite at apical half (Figs 20, 21).
Female. Unknown.
Measurements and ratio. Holotype: BL 8.06 mm; PW 2.70 mm; PL 2.25 mm; EW 3.25 mm; EL 5.81 mm; PW/PL 1.20; EL/EW 1.79; EL/PL 2.58; EW/PW 1.20. Paratype: BL 6.85 mm; PW 2.25 mm; PL 1.85 mm; EW 2.69 mm; EL 5.00 mm; PW/PL 1.22; EL/EW 1.86; EL/PL 2.70; EW/PW 1.19.
Etymology. This specific name is derived from type locality, Iriomote Island. Distribution. Japan (Iriomote Island, known only from the type locality). Biological notes. Holotype and paratype were collected by light trap.
