Ranetta

Dubois & Bour (2010) added one species to Ranetta Garsault, 1764 , and designated it as its type species, Rana arborea Linnaeus, 1758 . We regard this as a serious threat to the widely used name Hyla Laurenti, 1768 . The authors ineffectively intended to suppress Ranetta and protect Hyla under Art. 23.9.2, by directing the reader to consult García-París et al. (2004: 481–588) and look for the references as required by the Code. We regard this as ineffective, as explained above. If anyone uses the name Ranetta in a current classification, deliberately or undeliberately, facing the new situation that it now has a validly designated type species, the name Hyla cannot be protected any more under Art. 23.9.2, and the case has to be presented to the Commission.
