“ Ctenus karschi Roewer 1951 ”
Ctenus trabifer — Karsch 1891: 295, pl. 11, fig. 18 (illustration of female; numerous adult females and males from Sri Lanka, Peradeniya and Matale-Nalanda; misidentified according to Roewer 1951).
Ctenus karschi Roewer 1951: 446 (referring to male and female specimens of Karsch; syntypes not examined; see note below).
Note. Roewer (1951) provided a nomen novum for “ Ctenus trabifer Karsch 1891 ” although this nominal species was not available. Karsch (1891) just identified —and probably misidentified— the species and listed “ Ctenus trabifer Thor. ” referring clearly to the page of Thorell’s description. Therefore and according to ICZN (1999: article 13.1.3) the name “ Ctenus karschi ” proposed by Roewer (1951) is not available and thus not a valid name ( ICZN 1999: article 10).
The particular material was deposited in Berlin Museum (ZMB 6776–6778), but could not be found (Friederichs, in litt.). The illustrations made by Karsch (female habitus in dorsal view, opisthosoma in ventral view and epigyne) are not clear enough to recognise any diagnostic characters.
