Type species. Leptostylis recalvastra Hale, 1945 .
Diagnosis. Female and subadult male. Telson short, with 1 pair lateral setae, 1 pair stout terminal setae. Adult male. Antennule greatly expanded, with large brush of setae. Antenna short, not extending past posterior border of pleonite 5. Single pleopod with extremely stout peduncle, tiny rami with few long plumose setae. Remarks. No specimens of Austroleptostylis recalvastra were seen in this study, the New Zealand records of this species are reported by Jones (1963).
