Note:—The specimen includes a label by Freyn, the collector’s original label with the text “82. Herb. A. Kronenburg, Alp. Flora v. Wan (Warak Dagh), An Gebirgsbächen 9000 Fuss, 20.6.99”, and a revision label by Šmiták reading “ Dactylorhiza incarnata ( L.) Sóo”. In Jena, all Kronenburg’s Orchis plants under numbers 80–82 have been mounted on a single sheet lacking labels to the specimens ( JE 14987!).

Type (lectotype, designated here):— TURKEY. Wan [Van], 19 June 1899, Kronenburg s.n. ( BRNM 11113/33! isolectotype, WU 0068489!).

Note:—The specimen includes Freyn’s label dated 15.5.1900 with a short description reading “No 27 Kronb. 99, petalis aureis calyce aequilongis vel paulato longioribus a typo differt. Calyx sulfureus deflexus et reflexus” and the collector’s original label “Herb. A. Kronenburg, Alp. Flora v. Wan, inclv. Warak Dagh, Sumpfpflanze aus dem Wan see, 6000 fuss, 19.6.99”. “No 27” was added with a blue pencil. The description of this variety is based on the flowing characters “petalis aureis calyce aequilongis vel paulato longioribus”. The petal colour problematic to define on dry material, the length of the petals is about 3 mm, which means it is not different from the type. The characters of the material do not allow for distinguishing a new taxon.

Type (lectotype, first-step designated by Hedge 1982: 451):— TURKEY. Wan [Van], 20 June 1899, Kronenburg s.n. ( BRNM 6067 /33!, two sheets; second-step, here designated: BRNM 6067 /37!) .

Note: —The originally one specimen was later divided into two sheets. One sheet (lectotype) contains Freyn’s original label “6 Kronb., Armenia, Wan: in agris 2200 m s.m., 29. Junii 1899”dated 10 June 1900, but bears the provisional name “ Salvia micradenia ” and a revision label saying “ Salvia limbata C. A. M. (syn. S. chrysadenia Freyn )” by I. C. Hedge 1980. The other sheet (isolectotype: BRNM 6074/37) includes the collector’s original label “Herb. A. Kronenburg, Alp. Flora v. Wan, inclv. Warak Dagh, 7000 fuss, auf Ackern, 20.6.99”. The number “6” was added with a blue pencil. This sheet also contains a small envelope containing flowers bearing the name “ Salvia chrysadenia ” written by Freyn.

Flora v. Wan, inclv. Warak Dagh, An Felsen 10000 fuss, 15.6.99”.The number “130” was added in pencil. In both herbaria revision labels by Chamberlain 1973 are present.

Note:—The specimen includes a label by Freyn only dated 16 June 1900. Freyn selected the plants from specimens originally sent together with the material identified by him as T. wanense (see below). Teucrium wanense Freyn (1901: 283)

Type (lectotype, designated here):— TURKEY. Wan [Van], 20 June 1899, Kronenburg s.n. ( BRNM 5341/37! isolectotype, BRNM 5342/37).

Note:—The originally single specimen rich in plants was later divided into two sheets. One (selected as the type) bears Freyn’s label dated 16.6.1900, whereas the other one (isolectotype) has the collector’s original label “Herb. A. Kronenburg, Alp. Flora v. Wan inclv. Warak Dagh., steinige Boden, 7000 fuss, 20.6.99”. The selected type has better preserved bottom-branched parts.

Tulipa willmottiae Freyn (1900: 29)

Protologue citation:—[ Turkey] “ Armenia turcica orientalis, Wan [Van]: in glareosis alpinis circ. 2000 m supra mare anno 1899 detexit Kronenburg. (Descripsi secundum speciminibus binis bene exsiccatis a clar. C.G. van Tubergen jun. Haarlemiensi mihi benevole communicatis)ˮ.

Type (lectotype, designated here) or perhaps holotype:—“ Türk Armenien, Wan. In steinigem Geröll der Alpenzone bei 2000 m (wahrscheinlich am Warakh-Dagh), aest. 1899. Tubergen misit februari 1900ˮ ( BRNM 4371/38!).

Note: —The specimen includes a label and a small envelope containing “Perigonblätter u Anthern sowie eine Zwiebelschale des an Tubergen zurückgesandten Exemplares”. Both are dated 12 February 1900 by Freyn and have a revision label reading “ Tulipa armena Boiss. ” by W. Marais dated 1979. The specimen also contains a letter by Tubergen to Freyn dated 24 January 1900, requesting to name the plant after Ellen Willmott and including the information that there were three specimens of these plants. None of them have been found so far.

Valeriana alpina var. exaltata Freyn (1901: 269)

Type (lectotype, designated here):— TURKEY. Wan [Van], 27 June 1899, Kronenburg s.n. ( BRNM 12252/35! isolectotype, WU 0069249!).

Note:—The specimen includes a label by Freyn dated 29 May 1900 (erroneously with the name “ Veronica ” instead of Valeriana ), a small label bearing a handwritten description identical to the one in the protologue, the collector’s original label “Herb. A. Kronenburg, Alp. Flora v. Wan inclv. Warak Dagh., An Gebirgsbächen, 9000 fuss, 27.6.99”, and a printed discussion on Valeriana alpina Adams and V. alpestris Steven by Freyn (1895). Even though Freyn (1895) thought that his V. alpina Adams was different from V. alpestris Steven , this stance was not accepted and has found no resonance in recent works ( Güner et al. 2012). Freyn’s name has not been mentioned later and material under the name Valeriana alpina var. exaltata is supposed to reflect part of the variability of this species.
