Cyrtolabulus suboscurus ( Giordani Soika, 1941) View in CoL ( Fig. 11 View FIGURE 11 )
Labus suboscurus Giordani Soika 1941: 183 View in CoL , ♀ —“ Madagascar: Vallée del Sombirano ” (type lost).
Pseudonortonia madacassa Gusenleitner 2012a: 523 View Cited Treatment , 527, figs. 8–10, ♀ —“ Madagaskar (NW), Nosy-Be Island ” (HZWA). Syn. nov.
Diagnosis. Recognized by the following combination of characters: sculpture of head and mesosoma dense, clypeus with coarse and dense punctures, pronotal carina visible on lateral thirds of pronotum, tegula broadly rounded posteriorly, wider in posterior half and deeply punctate, transverse carina of metanotum sharp, propodeum with a short but distinct horizontal face, S2 longer than T2, apical margin of T3 broadly rounded, lamellate and preceded by a series of shallow punctures.
Material examined. No specimens were available for direct examination.
Distribution. Madagascar: Antsiranana ( Giordani Soika 1941; Gusenleitner 2012a) ( Fig. 12 View FIGURE 12 ).
Notes. Both in the original description ( Giordani Soika 1941) and in a subsequent paper ( Giordani Soika 1973) the type was stated to be deposited in MSNVE, but it was not found during the recent reorganization of the collection (cf. Dal Pos et al. 2022). It is to be considered lost.
Gusenleitner (2012a) described Pseudonortonia madacassa as the first Pseudonortonia from Madagascar, comparing it to the continental and unrelated genus Omicrabulus Giordani Soika due to the similarly enlarged tegulae. The holotype was not available for direct examination but pictures, both from the original description ( Gusenleitner 2012a: Figs. 8–10 View FIGURE 8 View FIGURE 9 View FIGURE 10 ) and received from Herbert Zettel, show how this taxon cannot be included in Pseudonortonia , being a Cyrtolabulus . Comparison of the pictures with the original description shows how this species shares all diagnostic characters with Cyrtolabulus suboscurus ( Giordani Soika, 1941) , making it a junior synonym of the latter.
