Distribution. Known from western Turkey: Mainly in the eastern half of Aegean Region along the mountains of the inner Aegean Region, Kütahya, Eskişehir, Konya, Uşak, Afyonkarahisar and the northern parts of Isparta, Burdur, Antalya and Denizli provinces ( Fig. 840 ).

Remarks. This species was described by Demirsoy (1973) as the type species of Pseudosavalania Demirsoy (now a syn. of Paranocarodes ). It is very similar to P. fieberi . Actually the only difference from it, is the absence of tympanum. Ramme (1951) described this species previously as Paranocarodes atympanicus after 2 females, one in the NHMUK and the other in the MfN. Ramme preferred to select the holotype preserved in his collection of the MfN. However, while the holotype of P. atympanicus is a female nymph of P. tolunayi , the paratype (adult female) belongs to this species. Therefore P. atympanicus Ramme, 1951 is a synonym of P. tolunayi tolunayi Ramme, 1949 and P. karabagi ( Demirsoy, 1973) is a valid species (see P. tolunayi tolunayi below).

The main character of this species is the absence of tympanum. While Ramme (1951) considered that this character is specific, Demirsoy (1973) thought of it as a genus character. This species is undoubtedly a member of Paranocarodes . The reduction stages of tympanum are also variable in Nocaracris which is not a generic character alone particularly for the Anatolian taxa (see also the genus Nocaracris and the Remarks section of the tribe Nocarodeini ).
