( Figs. 14–17 View FIGURES 14 – 17 )

Diagnosis. Eye bridge nearly contiguous over three facet rows, interocular suture inverted Y-shaped. Antennal flagellomeres fusiform to slightly nodiform. Wing with break in R1 near base. Hypandrium with triangular lateral projections at posterolateral margin. Gonostylus simple. Hypoproct narrowing, triangular apically.

Description. Male. Length total 3.8 mm. Head: eye bridge of four facet rows, divided medially by 0.2 facet diameters; interocular suture inverted Y-shaped; antennae with 16 antennomeres; scape cylindrical 1.4 times the length of pedicel; pedicel spherical; flagellum with 14 flagellomeres; flagellomeres fusiform to slightly nodiform; basal three flagellomeres equal in length; apiculus present in flagellomere 14; palpus formula = 1.0:2.4:2.3:2.4 (fig. 14); apical palp segment not striated. Wing with Sc short and unattached basally and apically; R1 with break near base; base of R2+3 united and not contiguous with R4; M1+2 and CuA1 with break near base; R5 unattached basally and terminating posterior to the apex of wing (fig. 15). Terminalia: Gonocoxites contiguous with hypandrium, hypandrium with triangular projections at posterolateral margin; gonostyli simple, tapering towards the apex and with lateral margin sinuous; basiphallus symmetrical; distiphallus asymmetrical, about 1.6 times the length of parameres; parameres curved, directed laterally or posterolaterally, tapering to apex (fig. 16); epandrium wider than long; hypoproct triangular, narrowing at apex, micropilose; epandrial clasping lobes arcuate, with two clavate tenacula, one apical and one subapical (fig. 17).

Material examined. BRAZIL, state of Espírito Santo, Santa Teresa, Reserva Biológia Augusto Ruschi, (19º54’S, 40º33’W, 820 m. a.s.l.), holotype male, 16.XII.2011, Santos, CB., 31 paratype males with the same data as the holotype.

Etymology. This species is named for Dr. Eunice Aparecida Bianchi Galati in honor of her contributions to the study of Psychodidae .

Comments. Tonnoira galatiae differs from other species that have simple gonostylus and epandrial clasping lobes arcuate with two tenacula by the triangular projections at the posterolateral margin of the hypandrium. The apiculus on flagellomere 14 of T. galatiae is similar to that of T. brisolaii ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ).
