M: Koch (1844a)
F: Feldman-Muhsam (1954), as stated in Apanaskevich and Horak (2008b) because the female of Hyalomma rufipes described by Koch (1844a) is in fact Hyalomma truncatum
N: Howard (1908), under the name Hyalomma aegyptium impressum , a name used for a tick species found in South Africa later found to be Hyalomma rufipes
L: Howard (1908), under the name Hyalomma aegyptium impressum , as explained in Camicas (1970) Redescriptions
M: Koch (1847), Feldman-Muhsam (1954), Apanaskevich (2004, under the name Hyalomma marginatum rufipes ), Apanaskevich and Horak (2008b), Hosseini-Chegeni et al. (2013), Estrada-Peña et al. (2017), Horak et al. (2018) F: Apanaskevich (2004, under the name Hyalomma marginatum rufipes ), Apanaskevich and Horak (2008b), Estrada-Peña et al. (2017), Horak et al. (2018)
N: Apanaskevich (2003c, under the name Hyalomma marginatum rufipes ), Apanaskevich and Horak (2008b), Abdel-Shafy et al. (2016), Estrada-Peña et al. (2017)
L: Apanaskevich (2003c) and Apanaskevich and Filippova (2007), both under the name Hyalomma marginatum rufipes, Camicas (1970) , Apanaskevich and Horak (2008b), Abdel-Shafy et al. (2016), Estrada-Peña et al. (2017)
Note: considerable problems have historically been encountered in attempting to correctly identify Hyalomma rufipes . Apanaskevich and Horak (2008b) explain the difficulties involved in morphologically identifying this species. Several redescriptions under the name Hyalomma marginatum rufipes are not included in the above lists. Sands et al. (2017b) presented molecular evidence to argue that at least two species are included under the name Hyalomma rufipes .
