An Afrotropical species whose adults have been found on Artiodactyla : Bovidae and Camelidae , and Perissodactyla : Equidae . There are no records of Hyalomma somalicum causing human parasitism.

Note: following the study of Kaiser and Hoogstraal (1968), Hyalomma somalicum was usually identified as Hyalomma erythraeum Tonelli Rondelli 1932 , but Apanaskevich and Horak (2009) found that Hyalomma erythraeum is a synonym of Hyalomma impeltatum , and reinstated Hyalomma somalicum as a valid species.
