An Australasian and Oriental species whose adults and the undescribed nymph have been found on Chiroptera : Pteropodidae ; adults alone have been collected from Carnivora : Canidae . There are no records of Haemaphysalis toxopei causing human parasitism.

Note: Kolonin (2009) does not include Haemaphysalis toxopei as a valid species. There is a confusing statement in the original description of Haemaphysalis toxopei in Warburton (1927) , where the female of this species appears to be the same as the female of Haemaphysalis kinneari . According to Trapido et al. (1964b), Warburton’s (1927) statement is a lapsus; however, Anastos (1950), who reproduced most parts of the description of Haemaphysalis toxopei by Warburton (1927), believes that this tick is probably a synonym of Haemaphysalis kinneari .
