Type locality. Sicily, Palermo, Portella della Ginestra (Fig. 160).

Diagnosis. A small-sized Dodomeira (3.50 mm) belonging to the exigua group with more stubby body. Within the species group, it is easily recognisable by oval but slightly elongate elytra, the rostrum without epistome and elytra with clavate, raised setae (30°–40°). Penis with scutiform apex. Sizes: pronotum (length: 0.75 mm, width: 0.88 mm, ratio 0.85), elytra (length: 2.20 mm, width: 1.40 mm, ratio 1.57).

Type series. Holotype male with the following labels: [transparent label] genitalia in DHMF // [white, printed] ♂ // [white, printed] “ Sicilia, PA [Palermo], Portella della Ginestra, 26.V. [20]’06, leg. Bellò” // [white, printed] “m 926, N 37°58.337’ E 013°15.166” // [green, printed] “Collezione Cesare Bellò” // red, printed] “ Dodomeira genistae sp. n., Holotype, det. Bellò 2016 ” ( CBE).

Holotype. Male. Total length: 3.50 mm. Stubby body, oval-elongate shape, elytra subparallel to the sides. Dorsal vestiture with imbricate, golden-brown scales with metallic sheen.

Rostrum clothed by golden-brown scales, transverse (length/width ratio 0.75), quite sub-parallel to the sides. Pterygia inconspicuous. Epistome absent. Mesorostrum concave, anteriorly with eight/ten thin, curved, semi-erect setae. Vertex wide and convex (vertex width / mesorostrum width: ratio 1.75) with several, elongate, golden, clavate, raised setae. Interocular space without visible fovea.

Lateral, relatively small, spherical eyes slightly protruding from outline of head. Antenna robust and short with recumbent, golden/silvery, widened/clavate setae. Antenna with ratio 0.75 (scape length: 0.75 mm, funicle length: 1.00 mm). Scape clubbed more robust than funicle, curved al basal third and progressively thickening towards apex. Funicle segments including club, relative lengths as follows: 11.6.4.3.3.3.3.15; all segments with widened setae; segments 5–7 pearl-shaped. Club twice wider than funicle, compact, fusiform with suture between first and second segment visible.

Pronotum clothed with brownish-golden scales, transverse (length: 0.75 mm, width: 0.88 mm, ratio: 0.85), slightly sub-conical, rounded at the sides, wider in the middle and more wide at base of its anterior margin, with short, quite clavate, golden raised setae. Punctation usually covered by scales. Scutellum inconspicuous.

Elytra (length: 2.20 mm, width: 1.40 mm, ratio: 1.57) dorsally vaulted, sub-oval but slightly elongate, clothed with dense brownish-golden scales, rounded on sides, wider at the middle, flat suture. Humeri straight. Elytral declivity with clavate and raised setae (30°–40°). Punctation of striae, shallow, rather catenulate and feebly impressed. Interstriae with clavate, short, golden, raised setae.

Legs short and robust clothed by golden-brown scales and with short, clavate golden setae. Femora little clubbed. Protibia with two/three acute spines on inner edge, with evident mucro on inner apical angle. Protibia quite sinuous on inner edge, metatibia and mesotibia straight in side view.

Tarsal segment 1 short, conical; segment 2 short and transverse; segment 3 shallowly bilobed; all segments with thin golden setae. Onychium curved, robust and short.

Male genitalia. See Figures: dorsal shape of aedeagus ( Fig. 48 View FIGURES 45 – 59 ), internal sac ( Fig. 53 View FIGURES 45 – 59 ), sternite IX ( Fig. 58 View FIGURES 45 – 59 ), apex of penis ( Fig. 19f View FIGURES 19 – 19 ). Genitalia were examined in six specimens.

Distribution. See Fig. Italian endemic.140. Known only from the type locality.

Etymology. Named from the Latin genista the scientific name of broom (Ginestra = broom, Portella della Ginestra is the type locality).

Ecology and Phenology. Collected Dodomeira genistae during the spring season sifting the leaf-litter under shrubs various on calcareous soil. Numerous and repeated research at 800–1000 meters. at same locality, in the same or in other seasons gave negative results.

Main soil type. Calcaro-Vertic-Cambisol (European Soil Data Centre; Panagos et al. 2012).

Reproduction. Amphigonic.
