Type locality. Sicily, Palermo, Sicani, Giuliana ( Fig. 150 View FIGURE 150 ).

Diagnosis. A medium-size species (3.75–3.95 mm) belonging to the adrianae group with short sub-parallel elytra (length/width ratio: 1.60–1.62) and body shape sub-cylindrical. Within the species group, it is recognisable by mesorostrum with spatulate setae and antenna short with scape/funicle ratio 0.60–0.70. Elytral declivity with recumbent setae (15°–30°) and pronotum sub-square (length: 0.75–0.85 mm, width: 0.85–0.95 mm, with ratio 0.89–0.89). Elytra slightly convex dorsally (length: 2.3 5– 2.40 mm, width: 1.45–1.55 mm and ratio 1.60–1.62), clothed by imbricate golden silvery scales and golden setae clavate or spatulate.

Type series. Holotype female with the following labels: [transparent label] genitalia in DHMF // [white, printed] ♀ // [white, printed] “I, Sicilia, PA [Palermo], Giuliana, vaglio sotto Olea , 16.XI.2009, leg. Baviera & Bellò ” ( CBE). Types are eight (all females). GoogleMaps

Holotype. Female. Length: 3.90 mm. Body shape slender and subcylindrical. Dorsal vestiture with imbricate silvery brown scales and short silvery setae rather spatulate, recumbent (angle with elytral surface 15°–30°). Rostrum transverse (length/width ratio 0.60), sub-conical to the sides. Pterygia obvious. Epistome absent. Mesorostrum slightly concave, anteriorly with about ten thin, curved semi-erect setae. Vertex convex (vertex width / mesorostrum width: ratio 1.85) with clavate and erect setae. Interocular space without visible fovea. Lateral and spherical eyes very protruding from outline of head. Antenna robust and quite short with long, raised, silvery, widened setae. Antenna with ratio 0.64 (scape length: 0.70 mm, funicle length: 1.10 mm). Scape clubbed, slightly more robust than funicle, curved at the first third. Funicle segments including club, relative lengths as follows: 12.6.5.4.3.3.3.17; segments 1–5 with clavate setae; segments 4–7 pearl-shaped. Club at least twice wider than funicle, fusiform with suture between first and second segment visible. Pronotum clothed with golden silvery scales, transverse (length: 0.80 mm, width: 0.90 mm, ratio: 0.89), slightly sub-hexagonal, sinuate at the sides, wider at the basal third with clavate, golden silvery recumbent setae. Punctation usually covered by scales. Scutellum small and inconspicuous.

Elytra convex, covered by golden silvery scales, sub-cylindrical with suture quite flat (length: 2.40 mm, width: 1.50 mm, ratio: 1.60), wider at the middle. Humeri short and rounded. Elytral declivity with recumbent setae (15°– 30°). Punctation of striae, shallow, catenulate and impressed. Interstriae flat, with clavate, long, golden silvery, raised or semi-erect setae.

Legs robust and elongate, covered by silvery scales and rather short, clavate, silvery-golden setae. Femora clubbed. Protibia with two-three acute spines on inner edge, with evident mucro on inner apical angle. Protibia not sinuous on inner edge, metatibia and mesotibia straight in side view.

Tarsal segment 1 short, conical; segment 2 short and transverse; segment 3 shallowly bilobed; all segments with thin golden setae. Onychium curved, robust and quite short.

Female genitalia. See Figures: spermatheca ( Fig. 68 View FIGURES 60 – 98 ), sternite VIII ( Fig. 107 View FIGURES 99 – 137 ). Genitalia were examined in five specimens.

Paratype variability. No were observed significant differences in paratypes specimens (all females), except in size.

Distribution. See Fig. 139. Known Sicani Mountains near type locality Giuliana.

Etymology. Named from Julia (gens) the Latin name from which Giuliana village.

Ecology and Phenology. Collected by Berlese and Winkler extractors from soil obtained sifting the leaf litter on clay soil, of an olive grove in March and November, at 400–500 meters.

Collections in the other months gave negative results.

Main soil type. Vertic-Cambisol (European Soil Data Centre; Panagos et al. 2012).

Reproduction. Probably parthenogenetic. Species known from eight females.

Chorological relationships. Sympatric with Dolichomeira sp., genus usually wintry, at Giuliana and Chiusa Sclafani.
