Van Soest et al. 2020 errroneously erected this name as a nomen novum for Spongia agaricina subsp. corlosia View in CoL (sic) var. fusca Hyatt, 1877: 524 View in CoL (from Nassau, Bahamas), an alleged junior homonym of Spongia communis fusca Lamarck, 1814 View in CoL . Because Hyatt’s name is not available for being a four-name taxon it cannot come into homonymy with an available name (ICZN art. 54.1). The present species name is unavailable. The specimen likely belongs to Spongia (Spongia) tubulifera Lamarck, 1814 View in CoL in accordance with above discussed Spongia agaricina subsp. coelosia var. fusca Hyatt, 1877 View in CoL ).
