Chroodactylon filamentosum (Kant & Gupta) E. K. Ganesan J. A. West & O. Necchi C omb. nov.
(Basionym = Asterocystis filamentosa Kant & Gupta, 1998, p. 184 , Pl. 84, fig. 2)
Taxonomic synonym: Asterocytis (” Asterocystis ”) filamentosa Kant & Gupta : Ott, 2009, pp. 9 & 99.
Distribution in India: Himalayas (Leh Town, Ladakh).
Notes: As pointed out earlier, Asterocytis is not currently accepted as a valid generic name. Hence, we are transferring the Indian records of A. filamentosa to the genus Chroodactylon . All the algal specimens from Ladakh were collected from nine different sites ( Kant & Gupta 1998, map on p.22, habitats description on pp. 26-27). But, it is not clearly mentioned from which of these nine sites, the red algal specimens were collected. Also, Kant & Gupta (1998) did not provide a holotype specimen, thus invalidating the species name, C. filamentosa .
Genus - Chroothece Hansgirg
