Distribution: South Africa, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Angola, Zambia, Dem. Rep. Congo, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia.
Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Reviewed by Kock (1967) and Ratcliffe (2002). Sometimes misspelled welwitschi but the original spelling is welwitschii . Apparently closely related to emarginatus ; see Ruedi and Mayer (2001).
