Type species: Eriococcus (Coccus) buxi Fonscolombe
The genus Eriococcus currently contains several hundred species and is almost certainly paraphyletic, although the defining characters for possible generic divisions are still uncertain. As indicated in the Introduction, Cook et al. (2002) consider that species in this genus fall within three quite separate clades. The relationships of the species described as new below is unknown but is morphologically similar to E. araucariae Maskell.
