Genus Protobombus Cockerell
The genus Protobombus Cockerell is a group of modestly robust, small to mediumsized bees, superficially similar to Electrapis Cockerell except in the form of the metabasitarsus, more consistently sinuate 2Rs (variable in Electrapis ), and typically smaller body size (the smallest of the currently described species of Electrapis are about the size of the largest described species of Protobombus ). Species of Protobombus are known as inclusions in Baltic and Cambay ambers, and also as compressions from the Eckfeld Maar and Grube Messel.
