Lectotype (Larsen in Morat, Fl. Cambodge Laos Viêtnam 24: 118. 1989): Herb. Linn. No. 607.3 ( LINN) .

Generitype of Phytolacca Linnaeus (vide Green, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 157. 1929).

Current name: Phytolacca americana L. View in CoL ( Phytolaccaceae ).

Note: Although Nowicke (in Ann. Missouri Bot. Gard. 55: 318. 1969) typified P. decandra L. (1762) , a synonym of P. americana , she gave no indication that she was treating the two names as homotypic, so she cannot be accepted as having typified P. americana . The first typification appears to be that of Larsen, which is accepted here. Reveal (in Jarvis & al., Regnum Veg. 127: 76. 1993) was unaware of Larsen’s choice in designating a Clifford sheet (BM) as lectotype.
