Saurida View in CoL View at ENA sp.
Material examined. SMF 34985 (1: 16.2 cm); SMF 34969 (4: 11.2–14.2 cm); KAUMM 30 (3: 11.0– 14.6 cm).
Remarks. This species has previously been recorded as Saurida undosquamis (Richardson, 1848) ( Goren & Dor 1994) , but Inoue & Nakabo (2006) concluded that S. undosquamis is restricted to the western Pacific Ocean, and S. macrolepis Tanaka, 1917 is a widespread species, which is also recorded from the Red Sea, and immigrant to the Mediterranean Sea via the Suez Canal. Barry Russell (pers. comm.) has examined material from many localities and concluded that specimens from the Red Sea and Mediterranean Sea represent an undescribed species and the collected material is currently under study by him.
