Ourocnemis boulleti Le Cerf, 1911 , p. 412–413, fig. 1.— Seitz, 1917, p. 687, fig. 133h[7].— Stichel, 1930. p. 541.— Bridges, 1994, pt. VIII, p. 76.—D’Abrera, 1994, p. 1056.— Callaghan & Lamas, 2004, p. 161.
Diagnosis. Ourocnemis boulleti can be distinguished from O. archytas by the bright blue instead of dull dark brown color of the upper side of the wings; the rufous red instead of dark brown marginal band at the tornus of both sides of the hindwing; and the abdomen, ventrally dark brown instead of rufous red.
Taxonomic comments. Until very recently this species was known only from its male, holotype, which is housed in the MNHN, from “Amazone 1907”, according to the original description. However, the holotype (ex coll. Boullet) bears a label stating “ Brésil / (?Matto—Grosso)/ 1907 / Herm. Rolle”. Franz Hermann Rolle (1864- 1929) was a German insect dealer, and his label data are oftentimes not reliable. Seitz (1917) cites an additional specimen from Río Songo, Bolivia, lent to him by A. H. Fassl. The MUSM recently got a male specimen from Cosñipata Valley in Peru, at 1720m of elevation, and another male was recorded in the Sangay National Park in Ecuador, west of Pelora, Morona-Santiago province, in a somewhat dry primary forest at 1300m of elevation, in 18.VIII.2011, by Jean-Claude Petit and Pierre Boyer (J-C. Petit, personal communication). These records suggest that O. boulleti occurs only in the high elevations of the Andes and that the type locality is probably inaccurate.
Distribution. Based on the only two specimens with reliable data, the species occurs in the Andes of Peru and Ecuador, from 1300 to 1720 m of elevation.
Examined material. PERU— Cuzco: (Cosñipata Valley, El Mirador, km 144, 13º04'S, 71º33'W), 1720m, 1.II.2013, McInnis leg., 1 male, ( MUSM).
