Cyrtocapsus marginatus (Distant) View in CoL
( Figs. 37, 38 View FIGURES 29–39 )
Eccritotarsus marginatus Distant 1893: 442 (original description; Tabasco, Mexico). Lectotype designated by Carvalho & Dolling 1976: 801.
Cyrtocapsus marginatus: Carvalho & China 1951: 676 View in CoL (combination); Carvalho 1954: 12 (key), 1957: 96 (catalog); Henry & Carvalho 1987: 292 (key); Schuh 1995: 542 (catalog), 2002–2013 (online catalog).
Diagnosis. Cyrtocapsus marginatus ( Figs. 37, 38 View FIGURES 29–39 ) is recognized by the black dorsum, the pale white antennae, the mostly black femora with only the bases pale, and the pale tibiae with only the bases black.
It is most similar to C. paraensis ( Figs. 46, 47 View FIGURES 40–48 ) in the overall black color and apically black femora, but the latter differs in having a black antenna, with only the base of segment I pale, and uniformly dark brown to black tibiae.
Description. Male ( Fig. 37 View FIGURES 29–39 ): Length to apex of membrane 3.00 mm (Distant 1893).
Coloration: Distant (1893) described this species as “black, more or less greyish-pilose; antennae, bases of the femora, tibiae (excluding bases), tarsi, sublateral margins of the corium, and the membrane pale ochraceous [yellowish brown]; apical joint of the antennae and the apices of the tarsi fuscous; basal central spot to membrane black.”
Texture and vestiture: As for other species of the genus based on dorsal photographs.
Male genitalia: Not examined. Known only from the lectotype male.
Female ( Fig. 38 View FIGURES 29–39 ): Similar to male in color and shape.
Host. Unknown.
Distribution. Described and known only from Tabasco, Mexico (Distant 1883).
Type material examined. Lectotype ♂ (right specimen of two on one card; paralectotype ♀ on left side) of Eccritotarsus marginatus Distant (BMNH) : Label 1, “[ Mexico], Teapa , Tabasco, Feb. H. H. S.”; 2, B.C.A. Hem., Eccritotarsus marginatus ”; 3, “sp. figured”; 4, “ Eccritotarsus marginatus Dist. ”; 5 (circular, dark blue), “ Lectotype.”
