Synonyms: Prionailurus bennettii (Gray 1867) ; Prionailurus himalayanus (Jardine 1834) ; Prionailurus rhizophoreus Sody 1936 ; Prionailurus viverriceps (Hodgson 1836) .

Distribution: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, India, Indonesia (Java, Sumatra), Laos, Malaysia (Peninsular), Burma, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam.

Conservation: CITES – Appendix II; IUCN – Vulnerable.

Discussion: Grouped with Prionailurus by Weigel (1961), Hemmer (1978), Kratochvíl (1982 c), Groves (1982 a), Salles (1992), Johnson and O’Brien (1997), Bininda-Emonds et al. (1999), and Mattern and McLennan (2000). Synonyms allocated according to Ellerman and Morrison-Scott (1951).
