Diagnosis. Odontosyllis without pigmentation pattern, with short, bidentate blades, teeth of similar size, with rounded space in between, 5–6 teeth on trepan, moderately large occipital flap.
Remarks. We noticed a variation in size among specimens of O. cf. fugurans along the Brazilian coast. In southeastern Brazil, the largest specimen analysed was 5 mm long, with 50 chaetigers ( Fukuda & Nogueira 2006), whereas in northeastern Brazil we found specimens up to 15 mm long, incomplete, with 88 chaetigers. San Martín (2003) examined specimens 40 mm long, with ca. 100 chaetigers, from Spain. Nevertheless, our specimens match the description of O. cf. fulgurans by Fukuda & Nogueira (2006) and Fukuda et al. (2013), except for the inverted dorso-ventral gradation in length of the blades of falcigers, which was misinterpreted by Fukuda & Nogueira (2006).
Type locality. France (Mediterranean Sea).
Distribution. Probably a cosmopolitan species, occurring in tropical and temperate waters ( San Martín 2003). However, a detailed comparison among specimens from different areas could possibly indicate a complex of species.
