Scutimica flava Ros-Farré & Pujade-Villar n. sp.
( Figs 1a,1c View FIGURE 1 , 2a, 2b View FIGURE 2 )
Type material. HOLOTYPE (♀) deposited in UB with the following labels: “French Guayana, 270 m, 29/V– 10/VI/1997, Ashe & Brooks leg” (white label), “ Scutimica flava ♀ Ros-Farré & Pujade-Villar n. sp 2006” (red label). PARATYPE 1♀ (deposited in UFSCar) with the following labels: “ Curua Una Santarem , Brazil, 18/X/1997, Malaise AR Lisboa Col. Angelica Penteado Diaz leg.” (white label), “ Scutimica flava ♀ Ros- Farré & Pujade-Villar n. sp. 2006” (red label).
Diagnosis. This species differs from Scutimica transcarinata n. sp. in the following characters: mesoscutum, which is smooth in S. flava and strongly transversally carinated in S. transcarinata n. sp.; the scutellum has a strong depressed area in the central part in S. flava while in S. transcarinata n. sp. it is not depressed; median mesoscutal line present in S. flava but absent in S. transcarinata n. sp.
Description. Length. Females: 2.8 to 3.0 mm; males unknown.
Coloration. Head, antennae, mesosoma and metasoma medium brown. Legs light brown except for metatibia and metatarsi, which are darker. In the paratype, lower face, mesoscutum and scutellum light brown.
Head. Frons with piliferous punctures, face with transversal carinae and piliferous punctures. Malar furrow conspicuous and coriaceous. Vertex in dorsal view with small piliferous punctures, posteriorly with strong to weak oblique carinae. Occiput smooth.
Antenna. Long and filiform. Antennal formula: 14(5): 6(5): 13(5): 12.5(5): 12(5): 12(5): 12(5): 11(5): 10.5(5): 10(5): 9(5): 9(5): 14(5). Placoid sensilae present, abundant from F1 to F11.
Mesosoma. Pronotum in lateral view with noticeable transversal carinae on dorsal half, not prominent dorsally. Pronotal plate with small piliferous punctures. Mesoscutum smooth and shiny. Parascutal sulcus very wide. Median mesoscutal sulcus and notauli straight, reaching first 1/3 of mesoscutum, notauli slightly wider than median mesoscutal sulcus. Median mesoscutal line very strong. Antero-admedian lines narrow and extremely weak, reaching the dorsal 1/3 of mesoscutum, parallel. Lateral basal impression fairly strong. Mesoscutum, seen in lateral view, convex. Scutellar foveae fairly deep, transversal. Scutellar disc with strong depressed area in center, delimited by lateral scutellar carinae, which are well developed; few transversal carinae at sides, between lateral scutellar carinae and lateral margins. Mesoscutum 1.2 to 1.4 of scutellum length.
Forewing. Radial cell 2.3 to 2.5 times longer than wide; R2 almost straight.
Biology. Unknown.
Derivatio nominis. Based on the Latin word flavus (yellow) as this species has yellowish coloration.
